Today’s Throwback Thursday video is a vlog from 2010 where I take a moment while walking home from work to show off my town of Herkimer. Plus I share a really weird story of what happened when I took a walk to work one night.
I am writing this post from the Basloe Library because of the fact that the Internet at my house has been disconnected as of yesterday and it won’t be back up until at least Tuesday because of the Fourth of July weekend.
This actually comes on the heels of a tornado that came through Herkimer Monday afternoon while I was asleep. It happened on the other side of Herkimer about two blocks or so from my house. It mainly affected a one-mile area from West German Street right up to where Lowe’s is on the outskirts of Herkimer. I saw photos on WKTV.com that included sheds blown around the parking lot and plants destroyed. Despite that, there were no injuries and the damage in the hit areas were minor. Thankfully, the town itself, including the area where I live were unaffected by the tornado. But once again, I missed out on yet another video opportunity that could have made into this week’s episode of TAOB.
First the earthquake last week, now the tornado this week. What next? A hurricane?
And speaking of TAOB, since my Internet is down for the weekend, I am going to try to get the new episode up tomorrow afternoon. Even without the Internet, I can still edit videos. It’s just that I have to burn the finished video to a CD before I even attempt to upload it to the Internet. I have done it before last year when I lost Internet. And I just finished cleaning out space on a CD that I can add a video to. Hopefully, the upload to YouTube will go smoothly.
So anyway, it looks like I’ve been forced to take a little vacation from the Internet for the weekend. But like I said, I will be back at the library tomorrow and hopefully, I will have Episode 21 of TAOB up here for you to enjoy this Fourth of July weekend. All I can tell you about this week’s episode is… there will be fireworks. Yes, folks. Tonight Herkimer has its annual Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular and I have to leave for work a little earlier tonight so I can get some footage to include in tomorrow’s episode.
Well, we are now coming into the home stretch of what has been a really crazy year for me. Just four more weeks to go and then it will be 2008 and hopefully then things will really be looking up for me.
This past week has been pretty slow and somewhat uneventful. To deal with the time, I continued to surf the web, watch some videos on YouTube, tried to continue working on my book, and working at ol’ Wal-Mart. The weekend before, I started going back to the Historical Society to continue working on my book there. Progress is still a little slow but it’s getting there. I still have high hopes that I will be done with the book by early next year.
Hopefully this week, I am planning to start my Christmas shopping because I get paid this week. I still have very little ideas about what I am planning to get for everyone, but hopefully by this weekend, I should have some ideas about what to get people. Other than that, I don’t really have a whole lot of ideas about what to do this week other than of course work on the book as well as some other things.
Oh, yeah. I also came up with an idea for next year. I am considering entering my cat Arthur in next year’s Pet of the Year competition for the Herkimer Telegram. The library entered their cat Sydney in this year’s competition and he came in ninth. Oh, well. At least he got honored as a pet of the month and he will be in the Telegram’s 2008 calendar. In addition to that he has a blog site, which can be found here on Blogger, as well as his own Myspace page. I have a link to Syd’s blog site so after you read this blog, go to my links section and click on the link marked “Syd the Bibliocat” and it will take you directly to the site. If you have Myspace, click on the link to my profile and you’ll see that Syd is number five on my friends list. Just look for the picture of a cat sitting in front of a book. If you want, once you see his profile, send him a friend invite for me.
The only other thing to watch out for this week is the weather. It snowed pretty much all last week and it is probably going to be the same for this week. It’s a good thing I watch the weather on the news at work during last break so I can plan what days to go to HCCC and what days not to, so that way I can continue to maintain my Myspace page without having to take another two-month hiatus like I was forced to do last year because of the public library’s “No Myspace” rule.
Not too much has been going on lately on the ol’ web. Yesterday, I decided to take a day off mainly because the weather was pretty rainy for the walk up to HCCC and I had originally planned to take the day off to work on the book, but I was also pretty exhausted and decided to go to bed instead.
The only major event to happen over the weekend was of course the new “Harry Potter” book and it was probably a big event at Wally World, but I wasn’t there the night they unveiled it. I have not yet bought a copy of the book mainy because I have it on reserve at the Basloe Library which is where I am going to be tomorrow. From what I have heard, it is supposed to be pretty good and everything. I have only read two of the Potter books, the two being the “Goblet of Fire” and the last book “The Half-Blood Prince.” I have also seen the first four movies and I thought that they were pretty good. I am probably going to wait until it comes out on DVD before I go to see the fifth one, which is now in theaters.
Also in my search for Miss Right on the several personals sites where I have profiles on, it is still a pretty frustrating process. It turns out that I have a lot of secret admirers, all of them being on the Internet. It’s too bad that I don’t have any offline. If I did, I probably would have known about it by now. I’m basically the type in which nothing gets by me. However, those that do message me on the personal sites turn out to be scammers, another thing to watch out for. The good news is I know not to fall for them. All I have to do is just not reply.
Oh, well. What can you do? There is just so little time and so little I have to write about.
So far the first four days of my vacation have been going pretty good. I spent most of the time cleaning and working on my book both at home and at the Historical Society. I have also been going up to HCCC as well, doing my Myspace thing as well as checking my Cupid.com account to see if anyone is interested in me. So far, no luck.
Last weekend was the Boilermaker marathon that they have every year in Utica. Someone had thought that I ran the Boilermaker this year and I told them that I wouldn’t be caught dead doing that. I’m in shape, but not in shape enough to run that. Running and me just don’t mix.
The thing is that it has been really hot the last few days. It was like being roasted like a pig on a spit. I couldn’t really do too much walking around. And of course, we also got some pretty good thunderstorms during the last couple of days. It was really hot in the library when I was trying to use Myspace. Yesterday morning while I was trying to fix my profile on Myspace, I noticed that the system went down, partly due to construction that was going on downstairs. I was able to spend some more time trying to fix my profile so that people could access it in case anyone wanted to send me a friend request. So far, I have had no luck.
Over the weekend, I got a new toy. I bought an old video camera from a guy who works at the Historical Society. He is planning to move back to South America next month and he is having a moving sale. It is from the good ol’ days when VCRs were king. There’s just one little problem with it: It needs a new microphone. The images come up pretty good, it’s just that there is no sound when I play it back on a VCR. As soon as I get the problem solved, it’s a sure bet that you will see me on YouTube pretty soon.
Right now, I am writing this from the Basloe Library. I figured that I could cut back on my emails on Yahoo by going later for today and tomorrow since I am on vacation from Wally World. Last Friday morning when I went to the library, I was frustrated when I couldn’t access Yahoo, which meant when I went to HCCC yesterday morning, I was backlogged with emails on Yahoo so I had to go through that. I had a whole slew of emails and a lot of them were junk emails anyway.
So anyway, that’s what’s been happening from the Herkimer front.
