Food For Thought

It’s been a relatively slow month from this end, not counting when moving this blog over from Blogger. It’s still amazing that 2010 is inching even closer. It’s almost like where did the year go? Now the weather is getting colder out and we’re getting closer to Christmas as recent events at work have demonstrated. Next week is of course the time of year known as Black Friday, every retailer’s nightmare. At work, they have a different plan in place partly due to the incident in Long Island last year in which that big Wal-Mart employee was trampled to death by all the rabid customers who converge on the stores to get the best deals.

This year’s Black Friday is different for me because I work an extra day this year. This is going to be the first Friday after Black Friday in which I do have to work since my friend got fired from there four years ago. Usually the day after Black Friday, they have pizza for us. I’m not sure if they still do that. After all, it’s been four years since I worked the day after Black Friday.

Now I have also been thinking about possibly going to college. Upon graduating from high school, I never expected to take this route, but maybe I should consider it, primarily because I need to get a better career. I am thinking about taking courses on broadcasting and maybe pick up some tips on how to improve the quality of my YouTube videos, especially if I want to make that a career like many of the big names that I am well acquainted with.

Anyway, just figured I’d try to work through my blogger’s block and get this post out and let everyone know what’s up so that way I am not letting this site go to waste.

It’s Christmas

So anyway, I know this is a shorter blog than what I usually do, but it’s the holidays after all, not to mention that I do have to work tonight to clean up the mess that everyone left on Christmas Eve. And then after that, I have my normal Friday and Saturday off from work. And so I have to start getting ready for videos next week, which is New Year’s. So happy holidays, everyone.

A Turkey Tail

Well, Thanksgiving has come and gone and now we are heading into the holiday season yet again. Sorry I haven’t really been here in a while, but as you can tell, I have been really busy lately, especially with Thanksgiving and Black Friday at work among other things. I was originally planning to do a video of Black Friday so you can see what it is really like there. But this year, it was about twice as bad as before and I couldn’t really find a good-enough hiding spot to get some good shots. Oh, well, maybe next year. At least I managed to get some Black Friday DVD’s in the meantime.

And speaking of Arthur, I entered him in the Telegram’s Pet of the Year contest and he didn’t even make the final cut. I couldn’t believe it. Oh, well, I can always show him off on YouTube.

I only got about three hours of sleep Thanksgiving morning because I had to run out and get rid of some bottles so I can buy a small bag of cat food. When I got to Hannaford, I noticed that their bottle machines were all turned off. So I had to literally run from one end of Herkimer to the other. So I got rid of my bottles at Wal-Mart and then went to Dollar General to get cat food. Cat food has gotten expensive at both Wal-Mart and Hannaford so I’ve been buying the cat food at Dollar General lately.

Traditionally, I have three Thanksgiving dinners. I had one last weekend at my place with my brother-in-law’s kids; then this year I went to my folks’ house before going to work and I also had Thanksgiving dinner at work on lunch break which meant that I didn’t go home as I usually do on lunch.

And of course the mayhem that was Black Friday. This year, I wasn’t in electronics as usual, but I ended up in the other major trouble spot on Black Friday: toys. I was basically surrounded on all sides by customers waiting at any minute to try and raid the pallets and take the items before 5 am. At least I held the line and actually they started tearing the items up before I could even cut the plastic off. As far as I know, no one in my store was hurt, but I was reading in the news this morning that one Wally World employee in Long Island was trampled to death by a stampede of customers. And that’s all I gotta say about that, except that Black Friday can be a very dangerous time to be in the retail business.

As far as this weekend goes, I am probably going to go to the Historical Society to get back to work on my book and I have some more videos planned, including a collab with another big name on YouTube. I also have to do another five facts video because I was tagged again by another YouTuber, and this one will be the last five facts video I will do, even though I may do one with Arthur on my other channel. So stay tuned for that. Okay, gotta go have some breakfast now.

Oh, The Agony Of It All

I’ve been sick the last couple of days and just when I thought I was getting better, whatever I had came back with a vengeance. My head felt like it was going to explode, I was freezing again and I had some difficulty walking. And so I had to call in again.

I also ate at the historic Empire Diner on the corner of Main Street and Route 5. It was basically nostalgia-central there. I saw it on an episode of “Mohawk Valley Living” and from there I learned that Elvis Presley, the King of Rock ‘n’Roll once ate there. I have to make a mental note next time I go there to film it for YouTube.

Later on that night as I was eating dinner and watching the season premiere of “Heroes,” my headache came back and I had to lay down. It pretty much continued through the night and well into the next morning and it was so bad that I could hardly sleep, and I nearly emptied my whole ibuprofen bottle trying to get rid of this headache. It was around 6:30 last night when I decided to call in sick at work. In a way, I think my job is to blame for why I’m so sick. In fact, when I first started out there, I was out for two days for being sick because of a so-called “ebola” virus going around.

Starting to feel better now, especially after I had my Hannaford-brand Frosted Shredded Wheat cereal. Hopefully, I should be able to go back to work tonight. After all I only have four days left until I am back on vacation. And what’s good about this week is that I managed to take my vacation on a week that wasn’t a pay week.

And I’ve got a little bit of news about my “Librarian” video that I posted during my last vacation at work. Viewership for that video has increased tenfold since the whole Sarah Palin thing broke out. That may be attributed to the fact that I tagged my video on with a Palin-related video, or the fact that the librarian character looked like her. The latter would certainly be close to the truth mainly because the librarian was a result of collab clips from YouTube star LisaNova who has since gone on to play Sarah Palin in several videos on YouTube and on BlogTV. So now in addition to being my most watched live video, “The Librarian” is actually my fourth most-watched video overall.

Well, I gotta run now. I got some more things to do so hopefully I will be able to make it to work tonight.

Haters

Me showing off my new hat.

Me showing off my new hat.

There is still quite a bit going on in my life lately. Even as I write this, I am operating on only a few hours sleep. Usually during the summer season, I find it really difficult to get back to sleep, especially on Sunday afternoons. That, and the fact that Arthur picks the worst times to be affectionate. I haven’t been able to get back to sleep today, but the fall is coming. Pretty soon, it will be much easier for me to sleep.

Now on to another topic. I am kind of bummed out today and this time it is something other than my ever-growing disenchantment toward my job at Wally World. Today, I found out that one of my most loyal subscribers on YouTube decided to delete her account on account of being harrassed by “haters.” This is nothing new to YouTubers and it doesn’t seem likely to end anytime soon. I have seen videos from users saying that they were leaving because of comments left by haters.

As a person gets more popular on YouTube, the more likely they are to encounter haters. They are usually people who don’t have videos up but exist only to harrass others who are being creative and contributing to the Internet. In fact, the very definition of a hater is that a hater is a person who tries to bring down a person because they are jealous of another person’s success in terms of creativity. I have encountered a few myself on YouTube and got one hateful comment during my first outing on BlogTV back in July. The thing is that it is easier to deal with haters online than it is off. All you need to do is first block the user who sent it and then delete the comment. Other people use the haters as fuel to keep going and some even abuse the hater right back.

While I am sorry to see my friend leave YouTube, I am going to continue making videos. I’m on YouTube to stay and I ain’t never leaving.

And on a lighter note, hope you like the new pic I took yesterday. I was just showing off my new hat. I think the skull and crossbones thing suits my character.
